January Trail Check-In
A month into the year, the trail starts to tell the truth.
As January comes to a close, I've been thinking about my goals, especially how purposefully I've been working toward them.
Despite it being very cold where I live, I've been back out on the trail this month. Hiking has reminded me that progress does not always manifest itself. Some days you feel strong and steady, but other days it seems like the climb is taking longer than you thought it would. Regardless, every step remains significant.
Setting goals and being a leader are very similar. It's not just about what we plan at the beginning of the year; it's also the consistency and thoughtfulness with which we follow through after the new year excitement dies down. Are we moving with a goal in mind? Changing when the ground changes? Letting ourselves reset without giving up?
After a month, this feels like the genuine work: staying committed, staying grounded, and acknowledging that progress takes time and isn’t made all at once.
As the year goes on, I'm more interested in pace than urgency, purpose than pressure, and building momentum that inspires others to join in, rather than simply reaching the conclusion.
